Stan’s Notes: Rattlesnake Root’s characteristic leaves and purplish green stems help identify this plant of moist woodlands. One of many species of Prenanthes found in Wisconsin, it is also called White Lettuce. The common name, Rattlesnake Root, comes from its history of use as a snakebite remedy. The sap from its roots and stem was sometimes used to treat dysentery.
